I was so excited when, shortly after Christmas, I received an email asking if I would like to be featured in one of my favourite magazines - Wedding Flowers and Accessories. My answer was obviously yes! I took out a subscription to this magazine soon after starting my floristry training, and I loved looking at and admiring the work of the other florists whose work was featured in the lookbook. It became my dream to one day be featured among them, but I didn't think that would happen in my first full year of business! I'd heard from some other florists that it took them years before they were asked to be featured, so what an amazing achievement for me!
I was asked to make a bouquet, a table centrepiece and then two other items of my choice. I went for a buttonhole (which for spacing reasons didn't actually make it into the magazine) and a hair circlet, simply because I love making them. I was given the colour pink, which I was very happy about because it's one of my favourite colours to work with. I didn't want to do solid pink though so I did mix it up with foliage, succulents, white eryngium and purple mascari. The full list of flowers I used was: ‘Keira’ David Austin rose ‘Lovely Dolomiti’ rose ‘Sweet 4-tune’ spray rose ‘Porcelain Lace’ spray rose Ranunculus Eryngium Freesia Muscari Genista Pussy willow Eucalyptus Echeveria succulent For the centrepiece I made a terrarium shape out of large drinking straws and string, which I then sprayed gold. I'm using this idea for one of my May weddings so I used this as an opportunity to have a practice run. And I love how it turned out! The pinks against the gold looks so beautiful. After the shoot the flowers were donated to a local hospice - I love the idea of my flower crown being tried on and passed around and bringing smiles to a few people's faces!
