Natalie and Rory's wedding

12/4/2017

Natalie and Rory were married on 6 April 2017, and held their reception at Maidens Barn, which is honestly one of the loveliest venues! There was a blush/dusky pink colour scheme so I chose avalanche roses, sweet avalanche roses, primaballerina roses, white spray roses, and gyp to complement, with some white o'hara roses in Natalie's bouquet to make it extra special and to give it a lovely scent. I also used two different varieties of eucalyptus and soft ruscus.

As well as the special roses Natalie's mum provided two little charms to attach to the handle of her bouquet - a lucky sixpence and another with a personalised message from the bride's mum to her daughter. I think these were both really lovely, as I love all the little touches that make a wedding personal. The five bridesmaid bouquets were smaller versions of the bride's bouquet, minus the o'hara.

The centrepieces were made up of creamy/white antique lanterns and four groupings of flowers around the edges. These lanterns were an absolute pain - Natalie shared a photo that she had fallen in love with which had similar groupings of flowers but around a vintagey-brown sort of colour lantern. But when it came to looking for these lanterns anywhere could I find them? No is the answer! With both me and Natalie looking for a good four months the only ones we could find had built in artificial candles, and as the venue allowed real candles then artificial just wouldn't really be good enough. Luckily Natalie was a relaxed bride and open to alternatives, so I showed here these white ones of which I already had three for another wedding. I'm so glad she was happy to go with them because I think they worked perfectly at the venue and with the other decorations on the tables. The top table was a mid size long and low featuring a variety of roses, eucalyptus and gyp.

Another special feature of this wedding was the garland the bride's father ordered for the bannister of his staircase. He wanted this to be a feature of their photographs at home, and to also help the wedding spirit carry on into the day after the wedding, for a family gathering at his home. I went along on the Wednesday evening to attach the garland, where Natalie, her parents and some of her bridesmaids were staying the night. I thought Natalie was excited then but it was nothing compared to the day of! After delivering the bouquets I finished off the garland by attaching roses, spray roses and bunches of gyp in little water vials to make sure they would last. It was so lovely to experience the family's excitement during the getting ready stage which I'm usually only party to a few minutes of when delivering the bouquets!

Please enjoy looking at the photos I took of the flowers and venue set up. I've also included a few that Natalie sent to me that are particularly lovely. I can't wait to see the professional photos from Hillier James Photography!
